What does a healthy lifestyle really mean?

What do most of people want? Well, besides winning the lottery or some such dream, most people want to enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life. But with all the information bombarding us about what we should be doing to stay healthy, it is hard to just relax and enjoy life.

Of course, some day-to-day stressors will also be there. Bills will have to be paid. Dinner will have to be fixed. Laundry will have to be done. However, some simple common sense can help you wade through all the advice.

For example, any health or diet plan that goes to extremes is probably not going to help you achieve that healthy, fulfilling life. Moderation is probably a better option. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is always a good choice. But guess what! That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some of your favorite foods – as long as you do so in moderation. So go ahead and have a piece of cake!

Just like your diet, any exercise plan that calls for extremes is probably not for you. If you are a competitive athlete, then go for those long grueling workouts. But for most people, a sensible exercise regimen – maybe walking for an hour a few times a week or joining an exercise class – is more realistic.

And if you want to have the energy to enjoy each day, make sure that you get plenty of sleep. You might be able to function with only a few hours of sleep each night, but are you really able to enjoy the day and accomplish what you need to do when you are tired? Don’t skimp on sleep!

And make sure that you find a work/life balance. You are lucky if you have a job you enjoy. But even people who love their jobs need to take time away from work to focus on family and friends! An active social life will actually make you healthier!

So as you strive for a healhy happy life, remember to look at the big picture – all the things that go together to make your life complete. Then celebrate those with friends and family.
