At the end of 2018, The Associated General Contractors of America surveyed more than 2,500 construction companies nationwide, including 33 right here in Utah. The analysis provided many insights, but there are a few that really stand out.
- 46% of all respondents and 58% of Utah businesses said a shortage of available construction labor is causing projects to take longer than expected
- 81% of Utah businesses said they were “having a hard time filling some or all positions”
- 27% of Utah businesses say they’ve changed their standards for hiring construction workers based on education, training, employment, and arrest record
- 48% of Utah businesses say they expect to have trouble finding hourly workers during the next 12 months
As you can see, a lack of skilled construction laborers is having a major impact on the construction industry as a whole, but especially here in the Beehive State.
