Aging isn’t always a picnic, especially when those nasty wrinkles start making an appearance. But if you want to get rid of your wrinkles, which product is right for you: Botox or Juvederm?
According to American Health and Beauty, there are benefits to both options.
What are the differences between the two? Botox is a toxin that paralyzes the muscle into which it is injected, which in turn removes the wrinkle. Juvederm is a facial filler that fills out the area under the wrinkle, making the skin appear smooth and wrinkle free.
Botox treatments are simple and take very little time, and clinical studies show that 90 percent of Botox patients say the disappearance of their wrinkles is moderate to better within one month of treatment. However, Botox treatments must be done once every four months to maintain the wrinkle-free look.
Juvederm has the same ultimate goal as Botox: to get rid of unwanted lines on the skin. It goes about the process differently, though.
Unlike Botox, Juvederm is a natural treatment using hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in skin. It is injected like Botox, but instead of freezing the muscle, it fills in the space behind the wrinkled skin. Results from Juvederm are seen in a few days and improve over time, according to American Health and Beauty.
Side effects of Juvederm can include swelling and discomfort, but it is usually short-lived.
So how do you choose which treatment is right for you? It all depends on your personal preference, as both will achieve the same end result. Things you may want to consider include: whether you want a natural treatment, how often you want to be treated and whether you want to try a newer product (Juvederm) or stick to something that’s been around longer (Botox).
