The day we all commit to those New Year’s resolutions has slipped by once again. But there’s still time to turn over a new leaf in the way you handle those oft-burdensome tax housekeeping chores.
Start today with a less ‘taxing’ method of tracking those 2014 deductions. Automate the process of recording your business expenses.
Is that possible? Actually it’s as easy as swiping a card through a magnetic reader. So let’s move on to other more pressing business. Since you will no longer have to sift through all that paper at tax time, here’s a step-by-step guide to a new way to spend some of that time you saved.
1) Take one large piece of poster board. Paste a photo of the U.S. Treasury Building on your poster board. Now draw concentric circles with a bullseye target right smack in the middle, and tack it up on a wall in your home or office. Ensure you have a clear line of sight and that no one is in the line of fire.
2) Buy a package of darts. Invite your friends over for a taxpayer-frustration party. Offer prizes for the first person who hits the bullseye. (You might consider a selection of choice teas as a way to celebrate your newfound freedom from corralling all those receipts.)
3) Top off your receipt-free celebration day with a thorough cleaning of your office. It’s a great time to banish those paper-loving dust mites once and for all!
