The art of the thank-you card

Thank YouIf there’s one thing the world’s short of it’s those priceless, genuine notes of appreciation. Everyone — even Ebenezer Scrooge — turns into a forever friend, when they receive your beautifully crafted thank-you note. That’s why it’s essential you send out that important missive following a networking get-together.

Here’s four tips on how to compose a thank-you note that cements a budding business relationship.

The business owner should pen the note. It carries a much more powerful impact when the business owner takes a few minutes to craft the thank-you note. That sends a strong message about the import of the business relationship.

Highlight one attribute or action that impressed you. While a long string of compliments can seem a bit self-aggrandizing, sharing one genuine compliment will give the other person a lift in spirit. We all know expanding our business network can be exhausting, especially when there’s always urgent tasks waiting on the back burner.

Share a bit of your personality in a thank-you note. If you have a pet, include a picture of your faithful canine or tabby. If you love gardening, share a link to your favorite flowers. Or, draw a funny smiley face inside the note.

Remember to include your phone number in the note. While it’s not always a good idea to ask for someone’s personal phone number, you may want to include your phone number in the thank you notes you send out. That gives a clear signal that you’re an open, friendly person that loves meeting new people!
