To build your dreams, you have to start with a solid foundation of self-reliance. The Sullon Manuyama family of Piura, Castilla, Peru, learned that lesson and more when they made the choice to participate in the Cause for Hope program.
The Manuyamas had determination, valuable skills and were already dedicated to working hard to support themselves. As the self-employed owners of a girdle-making business, the Manuyamas needed some additional support to turn around financial troubles. The family was reluctant to take the offer of help from Cause for Hope Foundation’s representatives because they weren’t sure they could use the program.
Sullon Manuyama said, “I had heard about the Foundation, but did not want to go because I wondered what could they do for my business if I’m about to close it?”
But instead of giving up, the family began attending business skills workshops and classes. Cause for Hope mentors got involved to help the family rethink business practices that weren’t working, helped them get organized, and encouraged them to keep going even when things seemed too difficult.
The Manumaya family decided to participate in Cause For Hope’s proven program that teaches people the skills needed to succeed and break the cycle of poverty – and we’re so glad they did! We offer support, training and mentoring programs that lead to proven success because they help people tap into the potential they already have.
After completing the program, Sullon Manuyama said, “We are deeply grateful to the Cause for Hope Foundation’s representatives. … We learned many new things, such as keeping records, new business practices, changing habits, and most importantly, the principle of self-reliance.”
The family was also able to take the lessons learned and expand the business. Cause for Hope staff supported them as they decided to sell purified water at home.
Now, the Manumayas have set new goals to hire salespeople, pay off their debts and increase their savings. We know they’re on the right path, because their income has already more than doubled. More importantly, they’ve been able to increase their savings sixfold!
