When you were a teenager, going to the movies was how you spent your allowance. But could you afford the cost of a movie theatre ticket today on your old allowance? Probably not. Movie theatre attendance is at an all time low. It actually hasn’t been this low in 27 years! Why?
- Bad movies! We live in the age of sequels and universe building. For every new Avengers movie there are dozen more trying to set up similar fictional universes. The problem is, they aren’t the Avengers and the movies are terrible. That’s why truly original films like Get Out or The Quiet Place have become sleeper hits. They’re actually good and people want to see good movies.
- Bad audiences! When was the last time you went to a movie and someone wasn’t texting during it? Despite all the warnings at the start of the
movie, people just can’t seem to ignore their phones for a couple of hours while they are being entertained. Add that annoyance to other movie theatre grievances like loud chewing, talking, bad smells, or people constantly asking questions. - Better options! Streaming services are making it easier than ever to stay home and watch the movies you want to see. Why go out and pay for something that will be easier (and cheaper) to view later?
We think that there is something magical about a movie theatre experience, but we don’t think you have to go the theatre to get it. Ticket prices are increasing all the time. Maybe now is a good time to invest in your home theatre experience! When we get the job done, you wouldn’t even notice that you aren’t at the multiplex.
