Are you a chronic nail biter? You’re not alone. You probably know this isn’t an attractive habit, but giving it up is easier said than done. We made it easier for you by laying out some tips:
- Confront your problem. It’s time to admit that your nail-biting habit is getting out of control. You have to want to make a change. Tell yourself that you want healthy, beautiful nails, and that means making some changes.
- Make a plan: Commit to a day to become biting-free. Put it on your calendar, or someplace prominent. People are more successful when they hold themselves accountable for goals.
- Fool-proof your plan: Start by putting a bandage temporarily over a nail you’ve been known to bite. Leave it on for a few days, then proceed with the others. You’ll discover how nice your nails look when you don’t nibble on them. Plus, the taste of the bandage will likely turn you off. You can also try to find another outlet for your nervous energy. For example, carry a rubber band, penny or something else to hold in your hands. Play with that constantly in place of biting your nails.
Remember, it can take weeks or months to overcome a bad habit. But the long-term payoff is worth the temporary anguish. Here’s to a nice set of nails!
