The foods that you are eating between meals matter much more than you think. Since weightloss experts recommend that you eat frequent, small portions rather than eating
2-3 big meals a day, you can expect to snack quite a bit if you’re trying to lose weight. Believe it or not, some foods can actually help you to burn fat. Keep this list on hand to be sure that you are choosing wisely whenever you’re considering your snacking options:
1. An apple and skim milk
Fruits are always more satisfying when paired with a bit of protein. Skim milk is a great addition to a large apple.
2. Cottage cheese filled avocado half
This is another fruit and dairy combo for when you’re craving something a little more rich and creamy. Remove the pit of half of an avocado, and fill with 1% cottage cheese. Season and spice as you please!
3. Canned tuna on whole wheat crackers
Tuna is a healthy lean source of protein- just make sure that you’re buying a low-sodium version since canned tuna is notorious for containing off-the-chart amounts of sodium. You can mix your tuna with Greek yogurt, veggies, spices, and herbs to help bring out the flavor and bulk up the snack without guilt.
4. Shrimp
While you may not think of shrimp as a snack, pre-cooked shrimp are actually quite easy to prepare. Try eating a few shrimp on bed of mixed avocado and Greek yogurt for a snack that is full of protein.
5. Edamame
One cup of edamame contains nearly 7 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber. It’s a perfect snack that can be enjoyed hot, cold, or anyway that you’d like!
6. Luna protein bar
When choosing an energy bar as a snack, it’s important to try to look for bars with less than 200 calories, and 10 grams of protein. Luna bars meet this requirement, and taste like candy bars!
7. Asparagus and a hard-boiled egg
This is a classic combo that tastes great when paired together, and also compliments each other nutrition-wise! The fiber rich asparagus balances out eggs’ natural protein perfectly.
