There’s no doubt that birth is physically traumatic for both mother and baby. And for a number of reasons, it could benefit your infant to see a chiropractor soon after the big event.
Squeezing through the birth canal and, in some cases, being pulled out by a doctor, can cause mild subluxations in the upper neck or possibly more serious subluxations that include spinal cord damage and central nervous system problems, especially if the mother is pushing for long periods of time.
Some of these subluxations can cause breathing problems for your infant, among other issues. The misplaced vertebrae can cause discomfort and pain for your baby as well, potentially contributing to fussiness and colic.
Visiting a chiropractor early in your child’s life will help relieve his or her discomfort and could help prevent future issues like chronic headaches, certain palsies, further breathing problems and even Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
You may think your child is too tiny for a chiropractic adjustment, but chiropractors are trained to deal with infants and will handle your bundle of joy accordingly.
