1) Find a job you love. Maybe you’re already employed, but seeking new challenges and room for growth. Or, perhaps you’re just getting started in your professional career. Either way, now is a great time to start searching for new opportunities and researching great companies. Just having a look at what’s out there might inspire you to make other positive changes. Start by checking out our job listings. Then go for it!

2) Update your resume. As you take this opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments during 2013, be sure you’ve included that information on your resume. Now is the time to get prepared for a great year with a polished, professional resume – and send it to us at Market Street Talent.

3) Expand your network. Reach out to colleagues, friends, acquaintances and extended family. Don’t be shy! In 2014, resolve to talk to strangers. You never know what possibilities might turn up.

4) Resolve to get excited about the work you’re already doing. This year, decide to put your energies into becoming more productive at work. When you’re really shining, new opportunities will find their way to you.

5) Update your skills. Remember when you decided you loved coding in the first place? Get curious and enthusiastic about learning new things again. Professional development is a must for IT people – so make it fun. Look for challenges. You can accomplish this by taking on new projects at work, or by creating a personal portfolio with work you’ve designed.

6) Cultivate your online presence. Maybe this is the year that you join the online community at GitHub to showcase your work. Or, perhaps this is the time to reinvigorate your networks through Linkedin and Twitter. Either way, set aside some time to get connected and polish your online personae.
