Writer, musician, father, professor – John Mizzoni wears many hats. And he keeps himself busy in all aspects of philosophy, which is his area of expertise, both inside and outside the classroom.
About to start his 13th year at Neumann, Mizzoni said he enjoys discussing “the big questions in life,” especially with his students.
“I like helping students to see connections between different aspects of their lives and how philosophy can help them do that,” he said. This is a goal he achieves through traditional classroom methods as well as experimental ones, such as examining growing technology or music.
As a gifted musician, Mizzoni uses his musical skills in the classroom. Outside of teaching, he writes and creates original music. He’s produced nine albums, all of which are available on iTunes.
Mizzoni said another important aspect of his career is staying active as a scholar. Since becoming a professor, he’s given over 50 presentations at more than two dozen colleges and universities. He has presented at institutions in Italy, the UK, Canada, Ireland and France. In addition, he’s authored 34 publications including one book, research articles and book reviews.
A favorite article that he’s written is one published in 2002 in the International Journal of Applied Philosophy. It was then anthologized, appearing in two additional book editions.
When not writing – musically or academically – John is the proud father of five.
