Need a little help preparing for your field trip?

If you’re in charge of planning a class trip, you are probably overwhelmed by to-do lists, permission slips, lesson plans and ideas for preparing your students. It’s easy to feel like you’re in over your head, but we found a pretty comprehensive preparation list that could be helpful to you.

Planning the trip doesn’t just involve the actual itinerary planning process. It also includes getting the school administration on board, building enthusiasm for the trip among your students, finding chaperones, fundraising and scouting the field trip site.14857623_S

Make sure to double check with your school administration about whether you will need medical permission forms in the event one of your students needs medical attention on the trip.

The more excited and prepared your students are for the trip, the more they will likely enjoy themselves while also retaining information learned on the trip, so make sure to build enthusiasm. The list we found suggests inviting students who previously went on the same field trip to speak to your students about their experiences. You can also show your students photos and videos of your destination or encourage them to journal about the lessons leading up to and on the trip.

There are a number of ways to prepare for your field trip, and you don’t need to be overwhelmed. This can be fun for you as well as the students!
