Each year, more than 100,000 people are injured while riding ATVs. Did you know that one-third of those injured are children? When it comes to riding all-terrain vehicles, experience, training and protective gear all count — in a big way. Experts at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission say ATV injuries could be dramatically reduced if those who own these recreational vehicles follow these simple rules:
- Always wear a helmet and other protective gear, including eye protection, boots, gloves, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
- Do not drive an ATV with a passenger or ride an ATV as a passenger.
- Always take a hands-on safety training course.
- Do not use an ATV on paved roads.
- Do not allow a child under the age of 16 to drive an ATV or ride on an adult ATV.
- Do not drive ATVs while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Owning ATVs and allowing others to ride them presents a liability risk. ATV injuries can be severe and result in legal action. Not sure if you have the right amount of coverage in the event someone is injured? Give us a call and we’ll review your policy.
