Do you understand all of your benefit options?

It’s open enrollment time again. Did you know that it’s estimated that half of U.S. workers do not take the time to understand all of their benefit options?

A new report shows that while benefits are an important part of the average worker’s compensation package, many employees neglect to take the time to get to know what’s offered them. Here are some tips for making the most of your company benefits:

Attend any company benefit meetings. You’re busy. But attending company benefit meetings can be a great way to understand and take advantage of all that’s available to you. Many benefits questions can be answered on the spot.

Compare benefits. Does your company offer life or disability insurance to its employees? These are two important coverage areas. But if you purchase insurance through your employer, you can’t take it with you should you leave for another job or are laid off. And chances are, your insurance company offers competitive – or better – insurance coverage than your employer does. Take the time to compare.

Read all benefit materials. It’s estimated that at least half of U.S. workers simply toss aside the benefit plan materials that arrive each fall. Read through any materials your company provides!
