Welcome to fall! The season of pumpkins, leaves and seasonal happiness. When you think of fall you also likely think of Halloween, Thanksgiving, corn mazes, raking leaves, football and tailgate parties, preparing for the cold, and stocking up on hot chocolate. While this is a great list, let us not forget the other fall list — the list that consists of things to do to prepare our houses for cooler weather.
Here are some simple starters for your standard winterizing to-do list:
- Clean your windows, inside and out.
- Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Clean leaves and debris from the gutters.
- Drain and store garden hoses.
And of course, a few things we would add to that list include checking your home for signs of mold and radon, and cleaning air ducts and vents.
In addition, it’s important to check on all of your internal heating equipment to make sure everything is functioning properly. According to Readers Digest, heating equipment is the number two cause of house fires. An annual inspection can help put your mind at ease.
Have lots of fall fun carving pumpkins and playing in the leaves, but also be proactive and make sure your home is prepared for the cold weather that’s on its way.
