What if Rover used the U.S. mail to communicate those pent-up desires the average dog has a difficult time putting into words? Here’s a few guesses as to what pooch might pen in a missive to his faithful mail carrier:
Dear Mr. Postman: Here’s a shout out to my beloved postman. He’s the one who secretly ferried dog treats in his mail bag while on his route each day, much to the delight of the neighboring canines. While it’s true I was once tempted to go for that sweet spot of exposed skin between the top of the shoe and the ankle bone, my first meeting with the man in blue forever changed my aggressive demeanor.
For I soon discovered the amazing character of the men and women who walk the streets of America delivering those parcels and letters across the U.S. in rain, sleet, and snow. (And lest we forget, don’t ever underestimate the fortitude it takes to deliver mail in soaring three-digit temps. The dog days of summer can be a killer in the southern part of the U.S.)
I began to notice the small, daily acts of heroism demonstrated by these stoic, hardworking postal carriers, who wear their uniforms with pride and distinction. Frankly it pulled at my heartstrings. Yes, I’m only one dog in a world filled with biting personalities, but my postal carrier always had a smile at the ready, even when ‘kitty cat’s preparing for battle!’ (Maybe I should tell the other dogs it’s time to stand up to that mail-stealing cat who imagines he’s a YouTube phenomenon!)
But I digress. The point is simply this: We should show our gratitude to those faithful postal carriers. Next time you see your mailman, give him a heartfelt thank you. And, keep an eye out for that crazy feline!
