With cookies, pies and feasts, staying healthy during the holidays can feel just about impossible. However, don’t let the most wonderful time of the year make you gain a most wonderful amount of unneeded weight.
Don’t wait until your New Year’s resolution to get healthy. You can start now and endure during the holidays. And it really won’t be as difficult as you think. Here are some tips to get you started.
Bring your own ammo.
When going to a party where you know there will be lots of food, try to prepare something healthy to bring along. That way you will know at least one food item at the party has some kind of nutritional value to it.
Eat before you hit the street.
You know that old rule that you shouldn’t go shopping hungry? Well, this is even truer during the holidays. You should always eat a healthy meal or snack before hitting the mall. This way, you will be less tempted by all the delicious treats and smells that try to persuade you along the way.
Size is everything.
When you do decide to indulge yourself, it’s smart to take smaller portions and smaller bites. Smaller meal portions will allow you to have more self-control on the amount of food you eat. Don’t pile your plate full of food. And taking smaller bites can trick your brain into thinking it’s full without eating as much food.
Find your partner in crime.
It’s always good to have someone else who is also trying to eat healthy during the holidays. Find a partner, and then together you can keep each other from indulging too heavily in the sweets. Even just knowing you have someone there who is going to check in with you might persuade you not to eat that second cookie.
Here’s to a healthy holiday season!
