How to spruce up your porch for winter

The words “sprucing,” “porch” and “winter” aren’t usually seen together. That’s because most people think of sprucing up spaces as something associated with the warmer months. But there’s much that can be done to make your porch comfortable and fresh – even when winter’s right around the corner.

Make old furniture new again

If your porch furniture is made of wicker, it’s easy to spray paint it for a completely different look. Choose colors associated with winter holidays, or any other theme that strikes your fancy. Bright hues work best; avoid muted tones – they can blend in too easily with an all-white landscape, making your porch look washed out.

Let there be light

Night comes on early in winter … suspend the daylight a little longer by making sure your porch has enough illumination. String lights add a pretty look, or you can hang several statement-maker pendants at regular intervals, especially if your porch is long.

Put up some screens

There’s nothing that’ll ruin your time on the porch faster than wind, rain and snow whipping around it like a tornado! Put an end to all that with porch screens. Now being on the porch can feel calm and serene … just like new-fallen snow.
