If golf courses in your area look like their greens are in need of a snow blower instead of a lawn mower, your game might be on hold until this frigid winter finally thaws out.
On the other hand, cold weather on its own doesn’t have to freeze you out of a good round of golf.
Here are 10 tips golf experts gave the Austin Statesman to help you deal with the chill on the course:
• Don’t leave your clubs in your car. Keep them warm inside the night before you play.
• Dress in layers and consider trying fabrics that keep you warm but allow flexibility.
• Wear gloves between shots. Try rain gloves or mittens.
• Do warm-up exercises and stretches before taking your first hit.
• Walk the course instead of riding it.
• Consider wearing a disposable thermal pad on your back to keep your core toasty.
• Keep a hand-warming device in your pockets. Remember: Warming up golf balls is illegal.
• Wear a ski cap under your golf hat.
• It’s natural to do a quick, short swing while bundled up, but finish your backswing without hurrying the downswing.
• Remember that everybody else on the course is also cold.
