Hiding ugly carpet

We’ve perfected the art of cleaning carpets without leaving any nasty residue behind. But one thing we CAN’T help with is deciding what to do with a rug that’s downright dreadful to look at. Some of the biggest visual offenders could be categorized as “Blast from the Past” carpets. You know the ones – the gaudy, ornate patterns, the flashy shag carpets in hues of yellow, orange and green.

Granted, these looks were trademarks of their time, but a lot of people either laugh or cringe when they see these throwbacks in modern homes.  Future carpet connoisseurs may argue with us, but we think current carpet trends have a lot more visual appeal. Today’s carpets embrace more sophisticated looks that can bring out the best in any home.

So what do you do if your carpet falls under the category of “Blast from the Past,” and you don’t have the option of getting a replacement? Here are some good tips for hiding a creepy carpet. And remember, call us if you want to at least rid your ugly flooring of stains and dirt.

Cover it! – The simplest solution is to cover the carpet with a nicer-looking area rug. Find a pattern or color that tickles your fancy while adding flair to your home. Try to find something that doesn’t clash with your current carpet. It may seem like a daunting dilemma, but think of how much happier you’ll be if you don’t have to look at your creepy carpet anymore!

‘Hey everybody! Have you seen my ceiling?’ –  It may seem silly, but drawing attention to the ceiling will get prying eyes to rise above the hypnotizing effect of your ugly carpet’s cheesy patterns or other-worldly colors.  Add a chandelier or some lovely light fixtures. Get colorful and paint your ceiling a color that demands attention. Whatever you do, draw attention away from the floor and towards something more appealing.

Make a convincing argument – What if you don’t own the home and the carpet choice isn’t up to you? Worst case scenario, maybe you can talk a landlord or property owner about replacing the ugly carpet. And if you are a homeowner stuck with less-than-stellar flooring, maybe it’s time to figure out a way to finance something new.
