If your business isn’t prepared when the cold weather hits, you can lose a lot of money trying to keep your space at a comfortable temperature. Here are some ways you can keep your heating bills under control during the winter:
Turn down your thermostat. Lowering your thermostat can save you lots of money. Did you know that for every degree you lower in the 60 or 70 degree range, you could save up to 5 percent on heating costs? Make sure you use a programmable thermostat so that you’re lowering the temperature during the times your office or facility isn’t occupied.
Replace or clean furnaces and filters. Before the cold weather locks in permanently, do yourself a favor and change out any old furnace filters. If you notice that any vents are having trouble you may want to go ahead and replace them. While it may cost some money up front, the lack of maintenance in the long run will pay off.
Reduce the hot water temperature. Set your company’s water heater to the “normal” setting. This is generally around 120-degrees Fahrenheit. Do this, and you’ll save on energy costs by seven to 11 percent!
Seal up any leaks. Caulk leaks that you find around windows, doors, or any other areas that are vulnerable to air from the outside. Check the bathroom, storage closets, and areas on the roof that might allow cold air to infiltrate. It will take a little extra time and energy, but it’ll undoubtedly pay off.
