Ever tried driving somewhere without the proper address?
Whether you’re a pizza deliverer, a UPS driver or looking for the location of a business meeting, having the right address is critical to ending up where you want to be.
Same goes for golf.
As Boston Globe writer Michael Whitmer put it, “Almost every good golf swing stars the same: with a proper address to the ball.”
Use a bad address and you might end up in the middle of nowhere or, worse, at the bottom of the lake (the golf ball, that is).
Here are some tips for setting up your swing:
• Grip: Form upside-down Vs with your thumb and forefinger gripping the club should point to the right side of your bellybutton. “This gives the clubface a good chance of squaring up through the impact area and helps us get rid of those weak slices,” golf instructor Danny Caverly instructed. Also, keep the heel pad of your left hand (for right-handed golfers) over the handle of the club.
• Aim: Stand behind ball to find a target line. Pick out an object in the distance (tree, bunker, etc.) to shoot for. Get the clubface straight, slide feet into place, put shoulders and hips parallel to intended line of flight.
