Getting outdoors is good for your health and wellbeing

Here at Hand in Hand Outdoors, we know time spent in the great outdoors is ‘good medicine’ for everyone. The fresh air, sunlight, and exercise that you get from a day spent hiking, fishing or participating in other outdoor sports offers priceless benefits for health and a sense of wellbeing.

In fact, experts are confirming what many of us have already learned from personal experiences. The technical term is “therapeutic outdoor recreation,” or “recreational therapy,” but we know it as good, old-fashioned fun. The primary focus of recreational therapy is to give people the opportunity to reap the rewards that come from these activities, which can include:

  • Natural stress relief from being in outdoor settings
  • Increased wellbeing from participating in a community activity
  • A sense of empowerment from learning and practicing a new sport
  • Personal enrichment from getting exercise and increased activity level
  • Lasting ability to deal with life challenges from increased confidence

We want to share these benefits with the people who need and deserve them the most! That’s why we’re proud to offer outdoor programs for our U.S. military veterans, underprivileged and disabled children with disabilities. We offer fishing, boating, shooting and camping activities.

We invite you to visit us online to learn more about our mission, and how you can get involved – with a donation, as a volunteer, or as a participant. We want to hear from you!
