Ah…nail polish! If you’re anything like us, nail polish is a must have beauty product. Nothing’s worse than opening your fave polish to find that it’s dried out. Fail! Here are some tips to do nail polish care and application right.
- Don’t store it in your bathroom. Bathrooms tend to be bright and the temperature is constantly changing due to shower use. Instead consider storing it in your fridge.
- Don’t store the polish sideways. When a bottle lies on its side, lacquer can flow around the neck of the bottle and cause it to stick. No fun!
- Make sure your nail beds are clean before application. Rub a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover over them before applying your base coat.
- Use a base coat. This is an easy way to protect and nourish your nails, as well as extend the length of the color.
- Don’t use nail polish thinner. Many removers contain acetone that can ruin it.
- Check your collection every few months and throw away any dried out bottles. Out with the old and in with the new! Polish’s standard shelf life is about 2 years.
- Don’t be afraid to try new colors. It’s easy to get in a rut, but sometimes a new color can really flatter your complexion.
