Could it really be true? A study out of Denmark is asserting that a 30-minute workout is actually better for weight loss than a 1-hour workout. But, but, but … what about the extra calories shed by exercising for twice as long?
Here’s the rationale according to ctvnews.ca: “Scientists believe that the shorter workout stints left subjects with more energy and motivation to live healthier lifestyles, while those who hit the gym for an hour were more likely to feel burned out.”
Hmmm, that does seem to make a measure of sense. This news is probably music to the ears of weight-loss warriors who would love to spend half as much time sweating it out on the treadmill.
Says study author Dr. Astrid Jesperson of the University of Copenhagen, “The subjects in the test group that exercised the least talk about increased energy levels and a higher motivation for exercising and pursuing a healthy everyday life.”
Those who worked out for 30 minutes were more likely to take the stairs, take the dog on a walk or ride their bike to work. Meanwhile, subjects who exercised for one hour a day “felt exhausted, demotivated and less open to making a healthy change,” Dr. Jesperson added.
