If you have young ones in your house, you know how you must adapt your home to ensure their safety and well-being. Flooring is no different. The flooring in your child’s room has to be versatile: safe, easy to clean and most of all durable. Luckily, there is no shortage of choices out there. Here are some of the pros and cons of a few types, to consider:
Carpet: Crawling toddlers and active kids will appreciate the soft surface. This material is easy on knees and elbows and helps cushion falls. On the other hand, children who are prone to allergies may not do well with carpet, as it can breed mold and mildew. And, while carpets are vulnerable to stains, certain types are available that are stain-resistant.
Hardwood: This material is known to be scratch-resistant and more durable with protective coatings. However, for wee ones, it can be painful to take a tumbles on.
Laminate: The upside of laminate is spills won’t stain and are easy to clean up. Be advised, however, that the slippery surface can be dangerous for little ones learning to walk or kids running in socks. Another perk: Individual boards can be replaced, as opposed to having to replace the surface in its entirety.
