Chiropractors improve balance and relieve pain in elderly patients

Spine problems can occur at any age. When it comes to pain or immobility, these health issues can be seen in children, the youth, young adults, middle-aged persons, or the elderly. Chiropractic care can help with a variety of spine problems as well as aging health issues in older adults.

Along with general chiropractic care, new research suggests that diet and exercise can help the elderly improve balance, according to the Health Central publication.

Researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Health Hospital, Hebrew SeniorLife’s Institute for Aging Research and Harvard Medical School found that high blood pressure affected the way blood flowed in the brain and could cause falls in older subjects. The researchers had the subjects participate in walking regimes and monitored their blood flow through ultrasounds. Those with the largest blood flow changes, the top 20 percent, fell on average less than once a year while those with little change fell approximately 1.5 times per year.

“Our findings suggest there could be a new strategy for preventing falls, such as daily exercise and treatments for high blood pressure, since blood pressure affects blood flow in the brain and may cause falls,” said study author Dr. Farzaneh Sorond.

Chiropractors can help Seniors with increased range of motion, better balance and coordination, and pain relief. Elderly people who have had difficulty pursuing their passions such as playing sports outdoors can once again participate in these activities with the help of a chiropractor. If you are an older adult who is having back pain or balance problems, consider seeing a chiropractor for better health.
