Chiropractic neurology: Therapy without drugs or surgery

It’s a treatment that made national headlines recently when chiropractic successful treated a teen was hit in the head during a lacrosse game. The injury was so severe that migraines, light sensitivities and short-term memory loss prevented the boy, Will Arlen, from attending school. In fact, he could barely stand up or move his left arm.

That’s when his family turned to a chiropractor, who specializes in the braid, according to a report that aired on ABC’s Nightline.

The chiropractor’s name was Ted Carrick, who practices a therapy called chiropractic neurology. The objective is to re-activate pathways in the brain by stimulating other parts of the body.

One of 10 specialties recognized by the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic neurology provide the same kind of consultation as medical neurology. However, the chiropractic model uses therapies and applications that don’t include drugs or surgery.

“We don’t do anything that is really original in our work,” said Carrick, who teaches at the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies, in an interview with Nightline. “We just combine things that other people have done in a different fashion.”

The results for Arlen were immediate – he was able to lift his left arm without any help.
