We all need people we can count on. Where would any of us be without friends, family and the loved ones that care for us every day? No one should have to go it alone, but that’s exactly what had happened to widow Hilda del Pilar Chojolan of Xela, Bosque, Guatemala – until a caring church leader stepped in to refer her to Cause for Hope.

Hilda had always counted on her husband to help support her and their two children, but after he died seven years ago, things became very difficult for the stay-at-home mom and her family. Although she started a small propane business on her own to help make ends meet, the challenges of going it alone – along with the resulting anxiety, depression and fear of not being able to adequately support the family – became overwhelming.
Hilda’s local LDS Church branch president didn’t know the full extent of her financial troubles because she never complained, but as a caring leader and friend, he knew that Cause for Hope could help. Hilda had shown so much determination to make it over the years and deserved to have compassionate people step in to give her the support and guidance she needed.
The Cause for Hope staff was so pleased to be able to share our knowledge, support and friendship with Hilda and her family. She had already shown such determination and strength! We were pleased to be able to lighten her burden by providing her with the small business training she needed to improve her financial situation and attain the peace of mind that comes from having the skills to be self-reliant.
During her participation in the Cause for Hope program, Hilda learned the skills she needed to promote her business and find new customers, identify new suppliers and keep good accounting records. Since 2012, she has been able to triple her income and has opened a savings account – a safety net she never had before.
Cause for Hope is dedicated to helping good, determined people become self-reliant and enjoy the benefits that come from being able to support themselves and their families. We invite you to get involved to help us make a difference in the lives of people who could use a little support and guidance!
