Cause for Hope ‘operating system’ for change includes computer classes

These days, so many of us take for granted our ability to connect through our technology. We worry about overusing our cell phones, never finding time to unplug from work email, and missing out on in-person conversations because we’re busy texting. But really, we’re blessed and lucky, because not everyone has the opportunity to use a computer.

And we’re not just talking about our older relatives! In our era of rapidly changing technology, it’s become a cliché: The older friend or family member that refuses to get a cell phone and invites you over to help program the new Blue Ray player, or won’t even try to set up an email account.

It can be funny, or maybe seem a little eccentric, when someone we know chooses to opt out on keeping up with the latest – in texting, photo sharing or joining ‘the Facebook.’ But being left out of learning and using the latest technology – or even a computer – is no laughing matter for people who need to acquire the skills to better their chances of finding employment, or even to search for a job that doesn’t require computer skills.

That’s why we’re committed at Cause for Hope to help our participants in underdeveloped countries to gain access to computers to seek work and create resumes. We also offer computer classes to teach the basic skills that will help our participants to feel confident that they can successfully work at a larger business that uses computers, or even set the goal to use computers to manage their own small businesses.

The computer classes we offer are always well attended, and the people we support have gone on to successfully find jobs, grow their businesses and become self-reliant. But unfortunately, not all of our Cause for Hope offices host computer classes due to a limited number of computers available in our training laboratories.

We’d like to invite you to visit us online to learn more about how we’re helping people to become self-reliant through our computer classes and other programs – then get involved! You can help us to connect with people, and make a difference to help end the cycle of generational poverty.
