In terms of education, field trips are invaluable. Teachers know that, parents get it, and students look forward to these days all year. Until now, however, those trips meant a bus ride, a few hours at a place and/or event, and then heading back to their classroom for the day. (Usually with too much excitement to get anything done.)
But for students and educators in Atlanta, a recent field trip took getting outside the classroom a step further: Everyone spent the entire day at a museum, and even shut down the tourist stop to outside visitors. For the field trip, kids from kindergarten through high school were able to explore, create, and ask questions in a new environment without having to be limited by a short timeline.
Teachers involved said this is a great new way to break down classroom walls and get excited about trips. (Even more excited, that is!) While it’s still somewhat new in practice, they, along with outside supporters, hope this will someday be the new field trip norm.
