Are you taking enough precautions with your pool?

Baby Cute Baby Girl PortraitYou’re always looking out for your child’s safety. If you have a pool, however, that could mean added anxiety. Questions about pool safety? Want to make sure you’re adequately covered for pool-related issues? We’re here to help. Here are some general areas you’ll want to watch out for:

  • Fencing. Install a fence around your pool for an added layer of protection. Fencing must be at least 4 feet high with gaps no wider than 3 inches.
  • Covers. in addition to a fence, you can cover the pool with a motorized cover, available from pool supply companies.
  • Door latches. Use latches to secure windows and doors on the inside of your home. Make sure the gate to your pool and any entry points to your backyard are secure as well.
  • Alarms. If you have an alarm system in your home, put it on the “chime” setting to alert you if your child tries to get out.

While these measures are helpful, they are in no way a substitute for vigilance. If you’re really concerned about an accident, you might want to consider getting trained in CPR. And if your child is old enough, swimming classes might be a good investment.
