Carpet choice, particularly color, is a personal matter. There are literally hundreds of color options on the market. How can you know which one is right for your home? The answer will depend on a few factors:
Level of traffic: Naturally, the more your carpet is walked on, the more danger of spills, stains and tracked-in dirt. Lighter carpets can be treated to be more stain resistant, but the less expensive ones might not be as forgiving when it comes to hiding stains. Darker shades wear better in high-traffic locations, like hallways.
Use of space: Consider the carpet color as a part of your decor as a whole. Do you want your carpet to brighten up a room or tone down a more vibrant one? Consider red for darker family rooms, living rooms and hallways because it wears better than lighter colors. For areas with a lot of natural light, you’ll want to think about potential fading.
Design match: Do you want a carpet that integrates with other elements in the room, or do you want it to serve as a statement piece? Remember, every room should have a piece that draws the eye. It could be your carpet, or something else, like a lamp. If your room already has a statement piece, loud carpeting may be too much.
If you’re really undecided, here’s a rule of thumb: choose beige. It’s a neutral color that works well with most anything. And feel free to stop in and ask our experts for advice!
