A match made in heaven: Finding the right polish shade

Portrait of happy smiling beautiful young woman touching skin or applying cream, outdoorsThe right nail polish color can really make a woman’s features pop. Most people naturally gravitate to their favorite shade without knowing there is a science behind picking that va-va-voom shade. It’s called color theory. As a nail tech, you can educate your clients to help them look and feel their best.

First, start by identifying the client’s skin tone.  Skin tone is generally broken down into three categories: fair, medium and dark. All skin has either a warm or cool undertone as well.  If you’re not sure about her undertones, try this trick. Have her go into a spot flooded with natural sunlight and observe her veins. Yellow, orange or olive undertones and veins that appear slightly greener than blue indicate warm undertones. Cool undertones will exude bluish, purple, red or pink. The good news about nail color is you can experiment. If a color doesn’t flatter her, you can easily remove it and try something else. That’s the beauty of remover! There is no shortage of colors out there, either. Take the time to help her find the color and you’ll find it very rewarding. How exciting is it to be in a business that helps people feel better about themselves?
