Are cell phones a liability risk for your business?

Did you know that cell phones present a significant liability risk for businesses today?

When was the last time you reviewed your policy for employees’ use of cell phones while on the job?

One way to possibly reduce, but not eliminate, liability concerns is to equip employees with hands-free cellular devices. Some companies are taking that one step further and setting policies that prohibit employees from using their phones in any way while driving. (Several different types of apps are available to remind drivers not to use their cell phones while driving.) Many companies also are conducting training sessions that reinforce safe behaviors when employees are behind the wheel.

At the minimum, you’ll want to create a specific policy that addresses employee cell phone use on the road, outlining what’s permitted and prohibited. You’ll also want to make sure that you have the right type of coverage for your business, in the form of commercial auto insurance, and that your liability coverage is high enough.
