Home gym flooring done right

Young Woman Doing Pushup In Front Of TelevisionIf you’re the type that can’t get enough exercise, you probably have a home gym, or at least a few pieces of equipment. If not, here are a few (flooring related) considerations to take into account when creating fitness central:

What kind of equipment will you be using? Machines like a treadmill, elliptical, etc., will require support underneath. Conversely, activities like yoga or bodyweight workouts only require lightweight mats.

Price should be a consideration, but not the only one. You might pick a cheap carpet only to find out it’s not supportive enough, and your floor could end up ruined.

If you’re lifting weights, you need to be especially careful. Without the right amount of traction you could hurt yourself or the floor. Remember, the softer the flooring, the more stress is going to be placed on your joints. However, for more low-impact workouts, like yoga, soft flooring is just fine. Weight training calls for firmer material.

Last, think about ease of cleaning. Choose flooring that will be easy to keep clean and sanitized. And don’t skip the sanitizing part! It’s easier to clean up workout messes immediately afterward than to clean it up later.
