Water bills are on the rise. The average cost of home water service is up 5.6 percent over just the past year. The good news? There are some simple things you can do to help use less water at home:
- Routinely check toilets for leaks. Toilet leaks can be costly.
- Consider installing a newer and more efficient toilet. Older toilets can use much more water than newer models.
- Don’t use your toilet as a trash basket. Every time you flush your toilet, you’re using at least five gallons of water.
- Reduce your time in the shower, and use low-flow shower heads.
- Turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Use your dishwasher and washer only when you have a full load.
- Washing dishes by hand? Don’t leave the water running while you’re rinsing dishes.
