At some point, most of us will find that we need more closet space (and storage options). Clutter can really build up quickly! That’s when it becomes time to find creative ways to make the best use of corners, wall space and even open floor area to find a home for all that we own. Luckily for you, we have some great ideas to help you get organized – without getting stuck with stacks of ugly boxes. If you aren’t ready to purge the clutter – or maybe even just need some tips to make use of a small space you’ve outgrown – read on for some organization ideas that will keep your home beautiful and functional at the same time.
Bedroom
Look for storage boxes that you can slide under your bed. There are so many options for this – some are even built to look like cabinetry, and/or have coasters on the bottom to make it easier to slide. Also try to select bedroom furniture pieces that have a dual purpose, such as a night stand with additional shelves for storage. The headboard of your bed is another space that can double to store items. In most cases, your closet is the main storage area, so maximize your space with modular systems. Don’t have a closet? Find a beautiful piece – such as an armoire, or a great dresser – that can allow your wardrobe to take center stage.
Bathroom
Use the wall space available to you for built-in shelving, hung cabinetry and shelves or hooks. Creative use of the vanity can also provide storage options. If you use a vanity with open space beneath the sink, you can pick up some stylish baskets to store toiletries. If you do have under-the-sink-storage, make the most of it with pullout shelving, storage caddies and/or hooks. Also try adding hooks to your door.
Living Room
We love using ottomans for creative storage! They come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and offer a handy storage compartment for gaming equipment, blankets or books. You might also invest in a bench with inside storage, or cubbies built in to the base. If your living room does have a coffee table, consider a tiered style for more storage options or a coffee table with drawers. Any sort of shelving, whether it is built-in or provided by book cases or modular systems help define a space. Try also: shelving built around doorways; hutches, buffets and armoires in the living room; and console cabinets behind a couch as a replacement for the sofa table.
