Utah has a rich aviation history. In 1913, Silas Christofferson, a leading California aviator and aircraft manufacturer, was the guest of honor at the annual Wizard of the Wasatch Festival. Christofferson brought three planes to the festival and made several flights over Salt Lake City, including over downtown which previous aviators refused to fly over because of the treacherous air currents and lack of emergency landing space.
