Clients don’t just come to your salon to look good. They come to feel good, too. Yes, they expect a nice manicure when they leave. But that’s not what keeps them coming back. The overall experience makes the difference.
To that end, it’s your job as the technician to improve the salon experience. A hand massage is one way to ‘wow’ clients. If you’re not convinced, consider this fact: Americans spend more than $11 billion on massage services a year. Put simply, Americans want to feel good or better, and you can make that happen.
But how? The first moment of contact with the client is the most important and can leave a lasting impression. You already make contact during a manicure or pedicure. Why not go the extra mile and pause and hold the hand (or foot) still for a moment? Maintain a consistent pressure, making sure you make note of the client’s body language and pain tolerance. Once you find that balance, keep contact with the client the entire massage. A break in touch signifies the massage is over, so make sure you don’t break the flow.
Remember, it’s extra touches like massage that encourages repeat business. You as a nail tech have the power to make people feel great. And that’s an important job. Own it!
