Everyone enjoys a full night of quality sleep. But did you know that sleep could be your secret to keeping your skin healthy and looking youthful?

According to a study by Case Western Reserve University, fine lines, uneven pigmentation and slackening elasticity were more prominent in women who identified as poor sleepers.
Poor sleepers also recovered more slowly from sunburn than their well-rested counterparts. The well-rested group recovered about 30 percent faster than the sleep-deprived.
But, how can something like sleep have an actual, long-term effect on a person’s skin? The National Sleep Foundation says poor sleep can prevent your body from secreting a normal amount of melatonin. Since melatonin is a natural antioxidant, it could be to blame for why a lack of sleep takes its toll.
Of course, good sleep alone won’t necessarily guarantee you will look 30 at the age of 50. Remember to always stay hydrated, protect your skin from the sun and moisturize!
