DIY: Essential Oil Toner

For some of us, the Holy Grail of health and beauty is clear, glowing skin. We generally know how to wash and moisturize our individual skin types, but one step that may further help our pursuit of skin happiness is toner.

When you use toners made with essential oils, they can diminish redness, add radiance, fight bacteria and work as an extra layer of protection for your skin from pollution and other irritants.

The right toner for you depends on your skin type because some are astringent-based and some are moisture-based. You may want to try a few oils to find the right toner recipe for you, but here are two recipes to get you started.

Roman Chammomile

Hydrating Toner: For most skin types

1/2 cup water

1-2 tablespoons witch hazel

½ teaspoon vegetable glycerin (optional)

3-4 drops clary sage essential oil for antiseptic properties

3-4 drops grapefruit for oil control and detoxification

3-4 drops Roman chamomile to reduce redness

Boil water for a few minutes for sterilization, then let it cool. Combine all ingredients in desired container and shake well. Apply to a clean face by spraying toner directly on your face or with a cotton pad. Let it dry then moisturize as usual.
