The importance of a good attitude

080515-F-2753C-015What’s more important when it comes to succeeding as a nail tech — people skills or technical skills? The answer is a bit of both. The ability to connect with clients and produce quality work are equally critical to success. Excellent people skills, including a happy attitude and enthusiastic personality, go a long way! While it’s important to learn the proper techniques and applications, soft skills are also part of the equation.

It doesn’t matter if you perform great services and know a lot about what you do if you have a poor attitude. It takes a lot to gain the trust of your clients enough for them to recommend you to friends and family. A single client has the power to expand your base. Never underestimate the power of a referral!

The fact is there are other nail techs out there, so clients don’t have to stay with someone with a mediocre attitude. That being said, early in your career it’s important to show up early, build clientele, watch other nail techs and how they work, and be reliable. Always ask your clients questions during and after the service to ensure you’re meeting their needs.

So, the bottom line is good technical skills will only get you so far. A winning attitude can take you to new heights!
