Declutter your closet

1098764_93042233If you’re like a lot of people, you probably have a closet full of shoes. But how many do you actually wear? (Other than BooRoos, of course!) If you have an overflow, chances are you’ll benefit from a refining or purging of your collection.

Oftentimes the first step in decluttering is realizing you need to make a change. Here’s a good rule of thumb: If you’re not using something or you don’t love it, you might want to rethink its value (or lack thereof.) Then divide your collection into three piles:

  1. Toss: Shoes beyond repair or shoes you haven’t worn in over a year.
  2. high-heel-shoes-1385710-sKeep: You love them, you need them and you wear them regularly.
  3. Maybe: The ones you’re oddly attached to and can’t bear to part with.

After you’ve weeded out the good from the bad, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Sometimes letting go of things can feel freeing. Now you’ve made room for some new shoes!

If you have some shoes in decent shape, you might want to consider donating them to a local thrift store, like a Goodwill. Not only is this generous, it’s green. You’re doing your part in ensuring landfills aren’t overflowing.

Here’s to a happy closet!
