Halloween is nearly here, and we hope you’re not rushing out to buy cheap toxic chemicals to cover yourself in. There are a lot of Halloween effects that could cause you to break out or give yourself split ends.

Here are a few key things to remember when you’re preparing for your night out.

Pick a high quality makeup. Ideally, for your Halloween makeup, you would pick a non-toxic concealer and eye shadow to apply spooky makeup effects. You can also make your own non-toxic face paints with flour, glycerin, cornstarch, and shortening. Here is an excellent visual guide to help you make your own totally safe makeup effects from kitchen supplies.

Also, remember to be kind to your hair. Some people see Halloween as an excuse to abuse their hair way beyond it’s limits. Don’t go overboard with hairspray, teasing your hair up, or spray on color. You might find your hair is damaged beyond repair, which is a truly scary prospect. There are lots of tutorials for beautiful, healthy hair this Halloween, so there’s no excuse for damaging your lovely locks.

The number one thing to remember this Halloween is to wash your makeup off! You might be exhausted from trick-or-treating or dance parties, but that is no excuse to sleep with your face covered in makeup. Old makeup can clog your pores and leave stains on your pillows.

Use a simple face wash to remove any makeup, fake eyelashes, or spirit gum, to keep your skin looking fresh the next day. Make sure to moisturize afterwards and drink lots of water to re-hydrate your skin.

Have fun this Halloween, but remember to pamper your hair and skin to make sure you don’t look like the walking dead!
