The risks of waxing

96d211082aabb2db278d5e352c9b67fcIf you’re an avid waxer, you may not have paused to consider potential downfalls (and even risks) of waxing. But we found an article that may open your mind, especially when it comes to bikini waxing.

The most obvious risk of waxing is getting burned. A qualified professional should know when the wax is too hot to apply, but some people’s skin is more susceptible to burning than others. You should be especially concerned if you use certain anti-aging or acne creams that could cause sensitivity to extreme temperatures.

All waxing carries a risk of infection, but you are especially vulnerable if you have your bikini area waxed regularly. According to the Huffington Post, tearing the hair out of such sensitive follicles increases the risk that tiny skin tears will get bacteria in them, thus causing an infection.

Any STI that requires contact to spread is more likely to spread if your skin is damaged or torn. You know those little bumpies you get after shaving or getting a wax? Those are making you susceptible to infection.

If you’d rather not deal with the pain and the little bumpies (and the risk of burning, ouch!), call us to talk about laser hair removal treatment options. Why mess with wax when you could have a handful of laser sessions and be done for good?
