Advocacy groups like Oil Change International turn to courts to curb government investments in fossil fuels through their export credit agencies. If accepted, their well-intentioned efforts will have an unfair impact on under-developed nations. Industrialized countries with export credit agencies have been the biggest benefactors of cheap energy, and the biggest contributors to the environmental degradation it has caused. Developing countries, on the other hand, cannot afford to worry about their contributions to greenhouse gas when they have more urgent basic domestic development needs.
