Vitamin B: Good for your heart, good for your head

For optimal brain and heart health, there’s nothing more important than getting the proper nutrition. Something that a health-conscious person MUST consume is vitamin B, a nutrient that helps the body make energy from food, improve neurological functions and help form the red blood cells that are responsible for carrying oxygen to your body’s tissues – most importantly, to the heart and brain.

One of the most efficient ways to get this nutrient is by eating whole grain cereals, leafy greens and dairy foods. Whole grains like wheat, corn, rice, oats, barley, quinoa, sorghum, spelt and rye are just some of foods that provide vitamin B.

Dark green leafy vegetables are also great sources of vitamin B. Salad greens, kale, spinach (which are also packed with vitamins A, C, E and K), as well as foods like broccoli, bok choy and mustard are rich in many of the B-vitamins. Even better, these vegetables also contain an abundance of antioxidants that protect cells as well as high levels of fiber, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium. And, being very low in carbohydrates, sodium and cholesterol is also a plus.

Dairy products like milk and cheese are relatively easy to eat on a daily basis. And studies indicate that those who consume these dairy products typically have more vitamin B in their body.

If high grocery costs, lack of free time or any other obstacles are standing in the way of getting these crucial foods incorporated into a daily diet, certain dietary supplements can be a convenient and often ideal option.

No matter how you go about getting vitamin B, it’s a nutrient that should be consumed every day. So get vitamin B and BE healthier.
