Every week, sidewalks take a literal beating. Think of all those sneakers, sandals, hard heels and high tops. It’s a rough existence.
As if that weren’t enough, sidewalks also can be part of some strange news stories. Here are two of them:
‘And Then Boom’
In this story, a man in South Carolina told police a sidewalk suddenly appeared before him while driving. This explains why a tire became detached from his vehicle. It also explains why he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Sticky Situation
In one Oregon community, hypodermic needles left behind by drug addicts are a problem for sidewalk cleanup crews. Inmate crews say they don’t want to touch the needles they periodically encounter on the job, the Willamette Week reports. That puts city administrators in a bind because the trash must not only be collected but also disposed of properly!
